The Pioneer Fund was established to provide funds on an annual basis for the general purposes of the Soaring Assocation of Canada. The fund was started after the government reduced and ultimately stopped funding to certain sporting organizations in Canada which resulted in SAC being in a very dire financial situation. The fund provides money to offset some of the cost of running the organization. A full account of the details of the fund can be found in the fund deed:
SAC provides $10,000 of financial support to youth to help offset the cost of flying gliders through our Youth Bursary Program.
Clubs that a competition that is less than 6 days in length will receive a $1,000 grant, clubs that host a competition is that is 6 days or more will receive a $3,000 grant and clubs that host a national contest will receive a $4,000 grant.
SAC administers a comprehensive insurance program that provides both aircraft (towplanes & gliders) and airfield insurance to clubs and individuals.
